Photos: PHZ-Sicks X Major X Georgetown

The Georgetown of today is not the Georgetown of yesterday. Georgetown was once a predominantly African American neighborhood. The university was built on the backs of Black people. Georgetown was the epicenter of punk through the sound of Bad Brains. harDCore was born. John Thompson had little black kids thinking Georgetown University was an HBCU because seeing a Black coach leading a group of Black men was like seeing a unicorn. AI turned the city on its head when he came, and it never been the same.

What you see today is not what built it. The cool does not come from what you see today, but no matter how much gentrification they put into place, they can’t kill the Black spirit of this area.
